Are skating aids available?
Yes, we have skating aids, including penguins, to help newer skaters find their feet. Numbers are limited and they’re generally available on a first come, first served basis, so we can’t guarantee one for every skater.
Can I book for a group or hire the rink?
Yes! We welcome group bookings, Christmas parties and private hire enquiries. Take a look at our Christmas Parties pageor email skate@thorsoniceyork.co.uk to tell us what you’re planning.
Can I eat or drink at THOR’S on ICE?
Absolutely. Warm up after your skate with food and drink at our Alpine Terrace, or carry on the festive fun at the nearby THOR’S tipi bar. Food and drinks can’t be taken onto the ice.
How do I book tickets?
Head to our Ice Rink page and choose your ticket type, date and session time. If the online booking system isn’t working for you, email us at skate@thorsoniceyork.co.uk and we’ll help.
How long is a skating session?
Each session gives you 45 minutes on the ice.
How much are tickets?
Adult tickets start from £12, children’s tickets from £11, and concession and student tickets from £10. Family tickets are also available. Prices vary by ticket type and session, so check the booking page for the price of your chosen slot. Please bring valid ID if you’ve booked a concession or student ticket.
I’ve never skated before. Can I still come?
Of course. Everyone has a first lap! Take small steps, use the rail while you find your balance, and ask one of our ice marshals if you need a hand.
Is the ice rink outdoors?
Yes! THOR’S on ICE is an outdoor rink with a clear covering, so you can enjoy the winter atmosphere with some protection from the rain.
Keeping You Safe
We’re working closely with Leeds City Council, West Yorkshire Police and LeedsWatch, including Project Servator, to help keep everyone safe at the market.
If you see anything suspicious, tell a member of our team or a police officer straight away. If there’s an immediate danger or emergency, call 999.
When is THOR’S on ICE open?
We’re open from Friday 13 November 2026 to Sunday 3 January 2027.
Between 13th November – 11th December, our opening times are:
Friday to Sunday: 10am-9pm
Monday to Thursday: 12pm-9pm
From 11th December to 3rd January, our opening times are:
Monday to Sunday: 10am-9pm.
We are closed on Christmas Day.
When should I arrive?
Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your booked session. That gives you time to check in, get fitted for skates and be ready when your session begins. If you arrive late, we may not be able to give you the full skating time.
Where can I find THOR’S on ICE?
You’ll find us behind York Art Gallery in York Museum Gardens, Museum Street, York YO1 7FR.
